How's the Market?

The Dallas real estate market is in the midst of a correction for sure. The good news is that our correction won't be as deep or last as long as in areas across the country that have experienced huge spikes in price appreciation over the last five years. With our modest growth through this market cycle, we will experience a more moderate adjustment in prices and a much quicker recovery. As the rest of the country begins to trend upward, with national earnings reports, consumer spending and corporate sales showing definite signs of improvement, we will see local sectors following suit this year.

We are beginning to see the latest technologies encompassing the real estate business: blogs with the latest new listings, Facebook pages highlighting realtors and properties and Twitter announcements about open houses. Best Time to Buy

I haven't seen a better time to buy a house in my twenty years in real estate, and there hasn't been a better time to buy in many of our lifetimes. Interest rates are at their lowest levels in decades. The conforming market is hot, and a loan can be secured in the mid four percent range. We have great resources for competitive jumbo mortgages (over $417,000) as well. Home prices have adjusted downward to 2005 levels, and with the national economy beginning to stabilize, it is quite possible that we are at the bottom of the market, price wise. Further, there is an outstanding variety of homes on the market from which to choose. Buyers today are able to find their favorite homes in a few short trips due to the abundance of offerings in this spring market.

Many investors are shifting their portfolios to include rental properties. With the low interest rates and prices, rental properties cash flow better than ever. One rental property can fund a college education over time or provide great income for retirement.

Tax Protests

I am getting daily requests for recent home sales data from clients wanting to protest their latest tax assessment. No problem, and the time is now to gather the info and appeal prior to the end of May.
